Getting here is easier than you might think.
Whether you’re planning an epic outback road trip, flying in for a short stay or travelling through western Queensland, you’ll find plenty of ways to experience the journey and discover the wide-open spaces, country hospitality and unique attractions that make our region so special.
Hit the road and discover Tambo and Blackall (only 100kms apart) in the heart of Outback Queensland. Our region is located right in the middle of the fully sealed Matilda Way stretching through central Queensland from Cunnamulla in the south to Karumba in the far north, and is easily accessible by car, caravan, motorhome or motorcycle.
Travelling by road gives you the freedom to explore charming country towns, scenic landscapes and iconic outback attractions along the way.
Concerned about fuel availability? Both towns are well-supported with multiple fuel options, and online fuel and road updates here to help you plan your drive.
Blackall Airport welcomes direct flights from Brisbane multiple times a week with QANTAS, making it easy to start your outback adventure. Alternatively, visitors can fly into Longreach, Barcaldine, or Charleville and enjoy the drive to Tambo or Blackall for a more scenic trip.
Coach services connect the region with major centres across regional Queensland thanks to the iconic Greyhound Bus, offering a convenient and affordable way to travel through the outback.
Enjoy one of Australia’s great rail journeys aboard the Spirit of the Outback passenger rail service from Brisbane to Longreach, where visitors can continue to Blackall and Tambo by road or flights.
